Our organization strives to identify and be the bridge between success and educational excellence. We are committed to catering to our youth’s educational needs and providing opportunities for them to excel scholastically. Each year I.C.O.N. awards scholarships to deserving students. I.C.O.N. is an organization of women devoted to establishing positive awareness and proactive involvement within our community and nationally, while developing a socially conscious sisterhood among women. Our motto is to Elevate, Motivate and Educate.
In keeping with our mission, we offer two types of scholarships, the “I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship for High School Applicants” and the “I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship for College Applicants”. Look below for the criteria for each and apply accordingly.
I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship
Candidates applying for the I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
- Be a graduating high school senior or up to 22 years of age.
- Be of minority descent
- Live and attend school in Houston or within a 60-mile radius of Houston (applicable for high school applicants ONLY)
- Attend an accredited college/university or vocational school during the semesters the scholarship is awarded.
- Valid 2022-2023 or most recent cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) throughout current high school senior or college academic year
- Participate in and validate community service activities
- Participate in your school’s sports or club activities
- College applicants must be a graduate of a Houston area high school within a 60-mile radius of Houston
- Scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) throughout the college semesters for which this scholarship is awarded Fall 2023 and Spring 2024
I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship Submission Checklist:
- Submit completed application
- Submit a current picture of applicant
- Submit official high school or college transcript󠄀
- Submit completed essay
- Two Official reference letters (one must be from a teacher or coach)
I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship Application Timeline
- Complete the application requirements for the 2023 “I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship”
- Submit application by June 9, 2023 deadline
- All applications must be received and postmarked no later than June 9, 2023
- Late applications will not be accepted!
- All scholarship applications are reviewed by the I.C.O.N. Scholarship Committee
- Winners are notified by June 30, 2023
- Scholarship awards One Thousand dollars and above are paid in two installments paid directly to recipient’s college/university.
- First installment paid directly to recipient’s college/university
- Recipient must have student id #
- Receiving college/university complete address
- Second installment paid directly to recipient’s college/university
- Recipients must forward Fall 2023 semester transcript by January 31, 2024
- Recipient must possess and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA to validate the “I.C.O.N. Community Scholarship” scholarship requirements
- First installment paid directly to recipient’s college/university
